Ibstock dominates shortlisted entries in 2015 brick awards

Ibstock, the UK’s largest brickmaker, has had a record number of its projects shortlisted in the prestigious Brick Development Association (BDA) Brick Awards, accounting for nearly half of total shortlisted entries.

An impressive 62 innovative builds incorporating Ibstock brick are in the running for an award, highlighting the striking aesthetic appeal and design flexibility offered through the company’s extensive range.

The Brick Awards recognise excellence in design and construction using brick and Ibstock is represented in the majority of categories, with 11 of the 12 featuring Ibstock projects.

The brickmaker’s successful shortlisted projects come from across the UK and include a diverse range of large and small scale housing and commercial developments.

Among entries in the Housing Design category are the contemporary Warren Apartments in London, which utilise Ibstock’s real-ceramic glazed range in black and white to create a bold and contrasting façade. The Keyes Building in Worcestershire, which uses Ibstock’s Leicester Multi Yellow Stock for a mix of vertical and horizontal cladding, has been shortlisted for the Innovation Award, while Bath University has been recognised in the Specialist Brickwork category for its use of Ibstock’s Firebron Freedom Special range to create a stunning residential area for students.

Andrew Halstead-Smith, Group Marketing Manager at Ibstock, comments: “We’re delighted to once again have so many of our projects from across the UK represented in this year’s awards. This is the best year yet for us which just highlights that brick remains the building material of choice for creative and contemporary architecture. Being shortlisted in nearly all categories, which range from Volume Housing through to Best Outdoor Space, demonstrates the design flexibility and wide availability of our brick products and we are committed to building on the success of our vast offering.
